Prom Season!

Prom season is among us so I figured I would indulge into  the festivities as if I were a teenager all over again. What better way to relive the moment of going to the Prom than through my 17yr old cousin Brianne who gave me the honor of doing her makeup for the special occasion. (Disclaimer) I do not claim to be a makeup artist nor consider myself to be a guru in the field of makeup application.
I must admit to being a little nervous considering it was my first time officially doing someone's makeup for a big occasion.  She is a teenager so she could of hated it, so I tried to remain calm and "act" like I was a true professional. From what you can see Brianne is a natural beauty and young so there was no need for a heavy, cakey application. I hate when teenagers put on too much makeup, so I knew in this situation eyes would be the main focus. Because her dress was multicolored I had to be careful to not over do it or make things match too much. I decided to go with a purple, lavender smokey eye with dark accents and a little bit of sparkle for some added emphasis around the eye. I will admit I loved the way it came out. Not to toot my own horn but to me she had the best makeup application compared to the other girls that I saw going to her prom.

Remember to have a happy and safe Prom Season!

Pete's Tavern

Pete's Tavern has been around since 1864 and is located in NYC on Irving Place and 18th street in a neighborhood called Gramercy. Although there are many restaurants on Irving Place, Pete's Tavern would be the one restaurant that would always stop me in my tracks. I would always ogle at the patrons dining outside chomping on huge burgers and steak fries. I always said to myself I really need to come here one day and try their burger and fries. So on a spring day after work I finally took the plunge.
Pete's Tavern offers many options as far as a good menu goes not to mention the prices are reasonable as well. So if burgers and fries are not your thing, have no worries there will be something on the menu to fill your palate.  My friend and I opted to try an appetizer so we ordered the coconut shrimp. Coconut shrimp is always a favorite of mine and they were quite yummy but preferred them without the dipping sauce that came with it.
Now on to the burger...I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with of course the steak fries. The burger was a good size, I would put it in a jumbo burger category. I ordered it well done and it was, it also had this flame broiled taste to it, not like a burger king burger but more like right off the grill at a bbq kind of flame broiled. The fries were crispy and fresh as well.
Overall Pete's Tavern lived up to my expectations. Sitting outside on a nice spring day in NYC enjoying a juicy burger is the ideal way to end a long day. I definitely recommend Pete's Tavern if you are looking for a nice low key place to enjoy good food. It was an added bonus that I decided to try it during the spring time because I got to sit outside and people watch at the same time.

What is your favorite place for burgers in NYC?

K! Pizzacone

About a month ago I walked by a place on 32nd and 5th ave in NY called K!Pizzacones.  At the time I could not help but wonder should pizza be served in a cone?  As a New Yorker I live for great pizza, and when I want it done right I know exactly where to go *cough* Patsys. So you have to wonder about my hesitation to even walk into this place to see what this pizza cone was all about. I remember just walking by at the time and just shrugging my shoulders in some what disappointment.....like who would eat pizza that comes in a cone? Well since I was in the neighborhood today I figured why not give this cone a try!
Before your mind starts wandering this is not like an Ice cream cone, but more like pizza crust shaped like a cone so all the yummy stuff stays inside. There are many options at K!pizzacone just like your normal pizzeria, when I say normal pizzeria I refer only to New York. First you chose your crust, plain or whole wheat. Then you move onto toppings, you may opt for their ready made combination's or you can create your own.  The cones run from 4.90 to 5.90 depending on the toppings. I chose the 4 cheese which was a ready made option. My friend Helena opted for the vegetarian cone. The cone was a mix of a crunchy yet soft texture. The cheese was nicely melted and it seemed like it was all layered inside the cone so each bite was just as good as the first. Unlike a traditional pizza slice where the first bite is the best bite.

All in all I liked my pizzacone, I must say that I prefer traditional slices better, not to mention the price was a little steep as well. What do you think of this pizzacone idea? Would you try it?
